Markus will cover the following questions:

  • Why should you go bikepacking?
  • How to plan your trip?
  • What to take?
  • How to pack properly?
  • How to navigate?
  • How to enjoy bikepacking challenges?

About Markus:

From 3 Sep 2015 till 27 Aug 2016 Markus Stitz rode around the world on this bike, a customised Surly Ogre with only one gear. During his journey he saw the Aurora Borealis in Iceland, braved minus 17 C in New Mexico, pushed up the world's steepest street in Dunedin, crossed the Australian Outback, cycled through 40 C in Thailand, climbed up to 3150 m in Iran, cycled the Anatolian Highlands and the Alps and rode the famous cobbles of Flanders. All to prove that it can be done. One gear is enough to cycle the world.

Markus is also the founder of Bikepacking Scotland and has developed the CapitalTrail, a 240 km bikepacking route through the Scottish Borders, starting and finishing at Portobello Beach, the same place where is started and ended his round the world trip. 'warm, engaging and fun, with an infectious enthusiasm that had the audience charmed from beginning to end. Watch out for this guy ... he'll be tearing up the adventure film festival circuit for many years to come!' (Rich Rowe, Peebles Outdoor Film Festival)
