Description
The Reiver Riding Party is a 175km long, two day cycling & bikepacking adventure ride in Scottish Borders, starting and finishing at the Born in the Borders Kiosk at Tweedbank Station.
The Reiver Riding Party follows the Reiver Raid, a new bikepacking route through the magnificent Ale Water Valley on a mixture of farm tracks, Landrover tracks, singletrack, quiet roads and lanes.
If you are new to bikepacking, or simply want to ride with like-minded people, this is the perfect event. Whereas most bikepacking events are fully self-supported, the Reiver Riding Party is perfect if you are not yet comfortable with the no-support philosophy. You can ride a wonderful route with the ease of knowing that there'll be a space to camp in the evening, a toilet, fresh water and others to socialise and talk bikes.
There are no strict rules, you only have to carry a few essential items, which are:
- sleeping bag
- bivvy bag or tent/tarp
- front and rear lights
- mobile phone
- helmet
The first day will be approximately 96 km in length, the second day around 79 km. The route is set, how much adventure you will add, is up to you. Both days include about 2000m of climbing and up to 16%, so you need good legs to complete the route. You will receive a GPX file for your GPS device in advance, but you have to navigate on the course yourself. There are no marshals along the route.
On day one everyone finishes at the beautifully located Whitmuir Farm at a (temporary) campsite.The recommended start time on Saturday is 9am, but according your skill level you can choose your own starting time until 11am on Saturday. The goal is to arrive at the campsite for the first night around 7pm, or whenever you make it. The Reiver Raid route was designed with an intermediate cyclist in mind, so there are good options for fresh water and food along the course. We will also provide you with some shortcuts before the event. This is a non-competitive fun event, no race, no competition.
Fresh water and toilets are provided at the campsite. Subject to successful application there'll also be a small Born in the Borders Bar with craft beer and you can purchase yummy TentMeals. Everything else (tents, mattresses, cutlery etc.) needs to be carried by the riders.
After paying for your entry we will send you a medical questionnaire and disclaimer form, which needs to be sent back to complete the entry.
Your entry fee includes a free Stoats Oat Bar, free Knob of Happy Bottom Bum Butter (Vegan Cycling Chamois Butter) and a free Craigdon Mountain Sports Loyalty Card, which gives you 15% off all full price purchases at Craigdon Edinburgh. Food and beverages are not included in the entry fee, but will have a selection of TentMeals and porridge available to purchase at the campsite.
